Veritas Backup Exec 10.d
VERITAS Backup Exec (TM) 10.d for Windows Server.
1. Run Browser.exe, which is located in the installation CD or in the extracted folder
2. The VERITAS Backup Exec (TM) 10.d for Windows Servers dialog will be displayed. Click Backup Exec Installation
3. The pre-Installation screen is displayed (Figure 2).
The following can be performed in the pre-Installation stage:
- Check the VERITAS Web site for the latest build before installation
- Check the VERITAS Web site for software alerts
- View the ReadMe file
- View licensing Information
4. Read the License Agreement, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, and click Next to continue with the installation
Additionally, Remote Install can be selected so that Remote Agent for Windows Server and Options can be pushed to remote systems.
5. Listed below are the installation versions you can select from:
b. Licensed: To install a licensed version of Backup Exec, insert the Product Activation Code in the Serial Number field, click Add, and then click Next to continue
The serial numbers can be imported (see the Related Documents section of this TechNote).
6. Based on the serial number entered, various pre-selected options will be displayed
Options with the red X indicate that these options will not be installed, as the serial number is not entered.
The destination folder can be changed if needed. The default destination folder is <SystemDrive>\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec.
7. It is recommended to give the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) a new domain user account belonging to the Domain Admins and Local Administrators groups. Insert the domain user account to be used for the Backup Exec services. If the account does not exist, Backup Exec will create it and add it to the Domain Admins and Local Administrators groups and the Logon as a Service right. Click OK to continue with the installation of the Backup Exec services
The following rights are granted to BESA:
- Logon as a service
- Act as a part of the operating system
- Create a token object
8. Select Use VERITAS device Drivers for all tape devices, and then click Next
9. Select Create a local Backup...and then click Next
10. Remote systems can be selected if valid serial numbers for agents and options have been entered. For remote workstations (Windows NT4, Windows 2000, or Windows XP Professional), license keys are not required. Remote systems can be selected by selecting:
- Add Remote Computer (systems are searched in a domain)
- Add Remote Computer Manually
Similarly, remote NetWare servers can be selected if serial numbers have been entered
This can be printed, or can be modified by clicking Back. This is also saved under <Drive:>\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\ as InstallReview.htm if the install is successful.
11. Click Install to begin the installation
12. The installation begins. Various components and new files will be copied onto the system
13. Select option
14. Register Information
15. Optional Contact Information
16. Click Next and then click Finish to complete the installation process.
